Every man needs a hobby. For wood sculptor and horror movie fan, Jason-san, that means donning a hockey mask and posting videos of him carving sculptures of famous videogame and manga characters out of gigantic hunks of wood.

Alan Wake could set a new benchmark in Xbox 360 graphics: According to a moderator of the official Remedy forum, Alan Wake runs in constant 30 FPS. Some menus and manuscript pages will locked to 60 FPS. And: The Xbox 360 hardware gives them the ability to apply 4xAA on trees and bushes.

"Some of your parents might be aware of our previous work," jokes Remedy's Matias Myllyrinne -- the company's last game, Max Payne 2, shipped in 2003. According to Myllyrinne, it's been such a long time in part because "it's easier to iterate on a product than to bring something totally new."
The company has been working on Alan Wake ever since, and the project's scope and gameplay style have evolved over its many years of production. Myllyrinne spent most of his talk at DICE last week illuminating why and how the company had spent so long in development -- which is now finally finished.

"Recently in the news, it's been written that MGS4's development costs crossed 5 billion [yen], or 7 billion. It didn't cost that much. If it did cost that much, it would have been multiplatform. But, of course, the data can't fit."
